Recent Journal Entry:
7/23/03 Today I gave my Testimony, at Youth Group and I want to share that with all you you:

For those of you that don't know me, My name is Joe, A lot of people ask me how I became a Christian, and I never knew the answer until the Lord reminded me last week, of how I became a Christian. Well my life was kinda like Max in the Goofy Movie, I was that goofy loser kid. I have been going to church since as long as I can remember, but I never really cared about God or his word. When I got into Jr. High I was finally excepted, but I was excepted by the 8th graders, Because I asked out one of the most popular 8th grade girls at Fesler Jr. High in the first month of school, I was rejected it but a lot of people thought I had guts to do it, so I hung out with them. Luckily for me I was afraid to smoke because my uncle and grandpa died from cancer and I was scared to drink because of both Buddy Diaz's dad and my dad, because they scared me when they drank. Also I always believed in the sex should wait until after marriage thing so I've never had sex. But I did date girl after girl after girl, and it was mostily because they liked me and I wanted to be needed. Those relationships only lasted a week or 2 and they weren't Christian relationships. I was scared to commit myself to God because I always thought to be a follower of Christ you had to give up fun, because all the Christians at my old church were boring and very strict on everything. So I wasn't looking forward to it. But when I went to Hume Lake Christian winter Camp I realized these people are pretty cool and I committed myself to Christ. Even though I didn't truly understand what it meant. Luckily my sophomore year I meet Frank Kanady and Brandon Roberts, they showed me what it meant to be a real Christian. They would tell me whats right and wrong in God's eyes. So I probably wouldn't be here with out those 2 and God. Every time I would fall they would help me get back up. I started to notice God's power, he would bring people that I never thought would ever come to youth group begin to see his light, I gave up caring about what the world thought of me and acted the way I wanted to act, which was the goofy Christian, But I was still in the world, Until May of this year, when I woke up and was just on fire for God, that day I went around witnessing to people, even though I really didn't know what I was doing. That's when I started to read my bible. And let me tell you that I've been more happy than I have ever in my whole life. Tina Monterio asked my what I thought my special gift was, and for a while I didn't know what it was, until today when I was in the car with Frank and Derek, I asked them what they thought it was and they told me “ Joe you have the ability to change the environment of your surroundings” and I had to ask him what does that mean and he said “ If people are sad you can usually make people happy with your goofy attitude.” Then the God whispered to me “it's true.” I guess its because as Josh Ruiz says “Simple Spirited” because I don't worry about the world's problems and I believe God wanted to use that in me. But don't get me wrong I'm far from perfect. I'm still a sinner, like last night I lied to Frank, and at the time it wasn't a big deal but God keep replaying it in my head this morning, and I had to repent. Last week at Hume Lake's summer camp, the theme was Dead Reckoning and I totally was like wow I'm a sinner. I challenge you to read Romans chapter 6 and Colosians chapter 3. They talk about sin and why its bad and about Jesus dying for your sins. It was a awesome experience. While I was there on a wednsday I was walking to the Something Like Silas concert, I ran into a guy named Boddy, he started sharing his testimony to me and told me that he had taken advantage of his girlfriend and I asked if he was sorry and he told me yes and I asked if he repented and he said yes, then God told me to ask if he ever told her sorry. So I asked him and he said he has tried but he can't bring himself to do it. So we prayed about it, and he called her from Hume Lake on the pay phone to say sorry, when he got off the phone he said I feel so much lighter, the weight of that is gone. And I thought wow God is truly awesome, then the next day I got to talk to a Neo-Nazi turned Christian which I must say scared me at first but then he told me his story, His grandpa died and everyone was treating him like crap so and his cousin was the only person who excepted him, His cousin was a Neo-Nazi and they beat up a lot of people, he said he beat up this one guy and the guys kid walked in. He told me if you could of just seen the look on that kids face as I beat up his dad, it was the worst feeling in the world, the next day he got out and meet his girlfriend who was a Christian and he became a Christian through her. Again I realized that if God can change this guy then there is still hope to change others. Those 2 conversations and Steve Salomon speaking were the highlights of the trip, that and everyone at Hume going “YAAAAAAAAAAA.” I had a dream last week that I was going to the YMCA swimming pool with some friends and I saw a bunch of kids walking on water with Jesus and he said you can too, so I tried but I couldn't walk on the water, I woke up and started praying to God to help me have more faith in him. The next day we were at the pool and me and David Lohman were trying to do tricks off the diving board. And I tried to do a ganner and landed on my back. Then I prayed to God and told him that I will have faith in him that he would allow me to do the trick, and I did it, I know your thinking that's kinda weird but since then I have put faith in everything I've done. But the cool thing about God is you don't have to be cool or smart because God loves us all, those were leasons I learned while I was up there. If you think you can make it as a Christian alone your wrong, because you will fall, so you should get a accountable buddy to keep you from falling, just like I did with Frank and Brandon. Since I have been a Christian I have seen miracle after miracle after miracle and they are so awesome, the best feeling is seeing people except Christ, It always makes me think that God is so awesome. So If you haven't committed to Christ and you want to don't be scared, go up to Steve or another Christian and tell them you want to accept Jesus in your life and then they will pray with you, its totally worth it guys, don't be scared.
